If you are new to CycleKarts and CycleKarting some of the terminology might seem a bit alien, so we decided to put together this glossary of common terms and abbreviations to help you decipher what all of the jargon means. 

 

  • Axle - Metal bar or tube around which wheels rotate
  • Bodywork - Outer covering or skin of Cyclekart. Often made of wood, metal or fibreglass.
  • Brakes - Method by which CycleKart can be slowed to a stop. Most often comprising of disc and caliper from a GoKart
  • Chain - The drive chain is used to connect the torque converter to the drive sprocket
  • Chassis - Metal or wooden 'ladder' frame that forms the base of the Cyclekart
  • CycleKart - Small approximate 1/2 scale vehicle based on 1930s era Cyclecar and built to the recommended guidelines
  • Cyclekartiste - Cyclekart owner / driver 
  • Drive chain - See Chain
  • Drive Sprocket - Large cog mounted to axle driven by the drive chain.  Also known as 'Axle sprocket'
  • Engine - Generally Honda GX200 style of engine or clone
  • GoKart - Source of parts for CycleKart :) 
  • Hub - Adaptor that mounts the wheels to the axle (see axle) 
  • Torque Converter - Device comprising of clutch and variable ratio belt drive transmission using conical pulleys.
  • Wheels - Specifically 17" diameter. Most usually from a Honda CT90 or 'Pit bike'
